Hanging your artwork

Hanging your artwork

Here is our simple guide to displaying your print perfectly.

Getting started

Before you begin, gather all the essential tools:

1 × Drill and screwhead

1 × Tape measure

1 × Spirit level

1 × Hammer

2 × Screws

2 × Plugs

1 × Pencil

Step 1. Determine hanging height

Decide where you want to hang your framed print and at what height. Make a pencil mark where you’d like the top of the frame to sit. Seek a helping hand for this step.

Step 2. Measure the wire

If your artwork has a wire hanger, measure the distance from the top of the frame to the highest point the wire will reach when pulled taut. Mark this measurement on your wall, starting from the top mark you made earlier.

Tip: When measuring, make sure the wire is pulled tight but not overstretched, as this will affect how the artwork hangs.

Step 3. Mark for screw placement

Measure the distance between the two screw points where the wire will hang. If you hang your frame horizontally, you’ll want the screws placed 10 cm apart. If you hang your frame vertically, you’ll want the screws placed 5 cm apart. Mark two spots on the wall at the corresponding distance from the centre mark, ensuring they align horizontally.

Step 4. Drill holes

Drill two holes where you’ve marked the screw placements. Use the appropriate drill bit size for the plugs and screws you’ll be using.

Step 5. Insert plugs and screws

Gently tap the plugs into the drilled holes using a hammer. Then, screw in the screws, leaving them protruding slightly (about 1.5 cm) so that the wire can easily hang from them.

Step 6. Hang your print

Now that the screws are in place, carefully hang the print by placing the wire over the screws on the wall. Make sure it sits securely on both screws.

Step 7. Adjust for level

Use a spirit level to ensure your artwork is hanging straight. If needed, adjust the wire on the screws to fine-tune the alignment. Tighten or loosen the screws until everything is perfectly level.
