Romanian-German painter Arthur Segal developed a theory of "equal value," treating every part of a canvas with the same intensity of colour and light. Moving through Expressionism, Cubism and Dada circles in Berlin, his fractured, luminous compositions reflect a restless, experimental career across pre-war Europe.
