Grant Watson
Grant Watson is a British painter whose intimate, observational works find quiet intensity in everyday moments.
Having worked for many years as an abstract painter, Grant’s move into figuration grew from a desire to rediscover freedom and spontaneity in his practice. Working in oil with a restricted palette, he approaches painting much like drawing, building images through tone, texture and intuitive mark-making. Familiar surroundings, fleeting observations and moments of family life become his subjects, from a daughter framed by a window to rowers glimpsed on the River Lea.
Rooted in close observation but led by instinct, his paintings capture the atmosphere of moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
