Nicholas Hatfull paints from fragmented memory, bringing together impressions of the woods and coastline near his home in Norwich with images drawn from cinema and other paintings.

Working with fluid acrylic watercolour on unprimed canvas and linen, he lets paint drift, bleed and dry into surfaces with a velvety, shallow depth, chasing compositions held in careful tension. 

His influences range from Ozu's compositional rhythms to Boro-repaired textiles, and his paintings carry something of the residual feeling of a dream.
